Sahabuddin Chowdhury, father-deceased Abdul Samad Chowdhury, Union-Hizla Gourabadi, Upazila-Hizla, district-Barisal. His two sons educate their children in higher education. He is also a well-educated ideal farmer. I met him one day to find out the success story. Let's hear the history of his success with his own mouth -

Question: - What is the reason for your business?
As a kid, I used to help my father with my farm as well as in agriculture. Later, after completing my education life, I did not plan to leave the job, I would build an agricultural farm in my own land. Accordingly, I contacted the Department of Agriculture Extension and sought advice. Besides, we travel to many successful farms and start reporting on various media reports. Then we build fisheries and animal farms. That's how I continued to grow my farm.

Q: What is the size of your farm?
The area is about 3 acres.

What is in your integrated farm?
On this nearly 5 acre farm, I also grow broilers, leeks and turkey chicken farms, goat and beef farms, as well as produce and pond fish in hatcheries of two bighas. There are fruit orchards, jamrul, bananas, etc. I harvest different fields. I am very aware of the land use. And that's why I grow seasonal vegetables in hatcheries and ponds. On the other hand, we also set up broiler farms on ponds to grow integrated fish and chickens. Different fruit trees planted in alignment along the road to the farm. Besides, I also cultivate fish in the pond by producing pona from my hatchery.

How has the farm been developed since the establishment of the farm?
First I started a farm with 3 bighas of land. There were 2 temporary employees. Now I have 5 acres of land on my farm, where the number of permanent and temporary employees is 20-25. Currently, my farm is earning Tk 5-6 lakh monthly.

What activities have you undertaken for agricultural development and new technology?
We produce new varieties of crops and distribute them at affordable prices among the farmers. In addition, we introduce new technologies of fisheries and animal resources to inspire farmers.

Anyone come to visit and educate on your farm?
Yes, in my farm, many farmers come from various places to visit and picnic for public and private companies in addition to farmers.

What is your advice to educated unemployed youth and progressive farmers in the country?
My advice for unemployed youths is that they not only leave jobs but have the opportunity to set up farm, fisheries and livestock farms. Working with strong morale and willingness can make more income from the job.

One progressive farmer is Sahabuddin Chowdhury. One who really appreciates the work he does in the development of agriculture, fisheries and livestock resources. Good wishes for all the work that you are doing to improve the economic development of the country from the healthy to the end of your life.
